Vito’s owners will run Q-Plex concession, catering services

The owners of a chain of family-owned restaurants have jumped aboard the Q-Plex to become the sole food services provider at the multimillion-dollar facility. The Georgoudis family, which owns Vito’s restaurants, will provide concession and catering services at the centre, which is scheduled to open in January.

The services will be offered through a newly launched family catering business, Big George Georgoudis said.

“Vito’s has been catering for the last few years quietly, we haven’t been marketing it and I think we’re ready to plunge into the catering world,” said Georgoudis, who co-owns the Vito’s locations.

The company, George Cousins Catering, will operate the two concession stands, called ‘Q’ Stops, at the Q-Plex, and will run catering services for all special events at the centre.

“We thought this was a great step for us to diversify,” Georgoudis said. “The beauty is all the family members have worked from the kitchen out. We can be more creative than what our current menu is.”

The concession stands will be “taken to another level,” Georgoudis said, with wraps, salads, pizza by the slice, sandwiches and more - all made fresh daily.

“We know parents are busy; we want there to be another option,” he said.

“Our objective is to feed children something healthy. A lot of parents stop at restaurants for convenience factor, but they can feel comfortable knowing that there will be something decent for the children to eat.”

Georgoudis said the company also plans to offer high-end coffee choices at the ‘Q’ Stops.

He said employees for the services will be drawn from the pool of more than 100 workers at the three Vito’s locations located in Rothesay and Saint John, and if needed, more will be hired.

For the catering side of the job, Georgoudis said his company plans to offer “nice, unique menus” that allow people to explore “a different level of food.”

He said the service could be provided for a small group meeting in the conference centre or a crowd of thousands of people.

“It’s a nice step for us,” he said. “We’re already there in a hospitality business.”

In a press release, Mayor Murray Driscoll said “good food means good energy,” which will bode well for those using the facility.

“From the beginning, our goal has been to deliver healthy choices in food and beverages,” the press release says. “We believe that this decision to choose a high quality, and might I add Kennebecasis Valley-based company, with a reputation for good food and strong support of sports and the community, feels right in so many ways.”

Georgoudis said he looks forward to having a positive relationship with the town.

“We see it as a natural step forward,” he said.

“We’re expanding our existing business and we don’t plan to stop there. We want to do this, and do it right. It will be challenging, but we look forward to the challenge.”
